If you've ever tried to wash a quilt, you know that it can be a tricky process. Not only are quilts heavy and awkward to maneuver, but if your machine isn't big enough, you may not even be able to fit it in the washer!

So how do you go about washing a quilt when the washing machine just isn't an option? Read on for our step-by-step guide on how to get your beloved bedding looking good as new.

Step One: Fill Your Tub with Water and Detergent

Fill up your tub or sink with lukewarm water and add detergent of your choice.

You don’t want to use too much soap, however—too much detergent will leave residue on the quilt that can attract dirt and cause discoloration over time.

Step Two: Submerge the Quilt in the Tub

Gently lower your quilt into the soapy water and press down lightly until it is completely submerged.

Once it’s in there, let it soak for 30 minutes before moving onto the next step. This will help loosen any tough stains or embedded dirt particles.

Step Three: Rinse Out The Soap

Once you’ve let your quilt soak for 30 minutes, drain out all of the soapy water and rinse out the quilt with cold water until all traces of detergent have been removed.

Gently press down on sections of the quilt while rinsing out any remaining soap bubbles.

Step Four: Squeeze Out The Excess Moisture

Once you’ve finished rinsing out all of the soap, squeeze out as much excess moisture from the quilt as possible by pressing down gently with both hands on either side of it.

Don’t wring or twist it—this could damage delicate stitches or embroidery! Just press down firmly until most of the moisture has been removed.

Conclusion:

And there you have it! Cleaning a large item like a quilt without access to a washing machine doesn’t have to be difficult when you know how.

Just remember to always use gentle motions when handling your fabric items; rough movements can cause them to stretch or tear easily!

With these simple steps, you'll be able to keep your precious heirlooms looking clean and vibrant without ever having to take them outside!
